‘What is an institute for NightCulture?’
170 voices from the worlds of contemporary nightlife, art, and culture come together to answer this question. Their diverse perspectives create a prismatic collection of ideas that collectively shape the vision for a future Institute for NightCulture. This book sets the stage for what such an institute could become.
CREATING A NEW INSTITUTE ON NIGHT CULTURE
A new type of cultural institution solely focused on night culture will be created in Amsterdam: the Institute for NightCulture. As museums and galleries have a long history anchored in day culture, the night remains institutionally practically unexplored. As part of this exploration 170 voices from nightlife, contemporary art and culture from Amsterdam, Europe and beyond, were asked the same single question: What is an Institute for NightCulture? Their answers are collected in a kaleidoscopic book. Together, this polyphony of answers to the same question situates the general framework for the future Institute for NightCulture. The book includes contributions by Catharine Rossi, Hans-Ulrich Obrist, Gert Jonkers, Ippolito Pestellini Laparelli, Iris van der Tuin, Ingo Niermann, Tino Seghal, amongst many others.
